Fixing DJI Microphone USB Disconnects During File Transfer with rsync

· One min read

If you’re using DJI microphones that record directly to internal storage, you’ve probably connected them to your workstation to download the audio files.

If you’re also using rsync to do that transfer, you may have seen this frustrating issue: mid-transfer, the device suddenly disconnects.

MacOS pops up an alert, which reads something like this: “Disk not ejected properly. Eject disk before disconnecting.”

The fix? Throttle rsync’s bandwidth usage to stay within the mic’s operational limits.

rsync -avz --bwlimit=1000 /Volumes/NO\ NAME/DJI_Audio_001/ ~/recordings/

This limits the transfer to 1,000 KB/s. It’s slow enough to keep the connection stable, but still fast enough for practical use. You can adjust the value based on your results. I found 1,000–2,000 KB/s works reliably.
